Robinia pseudoacacia 

Robinia (False Acacia), also known as Black Locust, is one of the hardest and most naturally durable hardwoods available in Europe, often outperforming Oak and Sweet Chestnut.

Featuring striking colour variations, with heartwood ranging from greenish-yellow to warm golden-brown tones that deepen with age, contrasted by lighter sapwood. Its grain is typically straight to slightly interlocked, with a fine to medium texture.

Workability is mixed due to its high density; it can be challenging to machine, but turns and steam-bends very well, and finishes to a smooth, rich surface that takes oils and stains evenly. 

Robinia is a very popular choice for demanding outdoor applications, from decking to playground equipment and specialist woodworking, combining raw strength with a warm, refined aesthetic.
